However, when naming their products, these manufacturers do not seem to be agreed upon a standardized nomenclature that clearly differentiates any performance difference between ´Air Cleaners´ and ´Air Purifiers´.
We at Danforth Air Filtration & Air Purification are constantly being contacted by confused customers, who most often expect that an ´Air Purifier´ should provide more purified air than an ´Air Cleaner´.
To clarify this situation we suggest the following nomenclature:
Air Purifiers Feature premium HEPA filtration or equivalent
Air Cleaners Feature MERV 8-16 high efficiency filtration or equivalent
We also further sub-categorize Air Cleaners or Air Purifiers with respect to their installation configuration:
1. Portable (Mobile) Air Cleaners & Air Purifiers - are self-contained mobile units that can easily be moved from one room to another to provide relief for allergy sufferers or to flexibly achieve your indoor air quality targets in closed areas.
2.Fixed Air Cleaners & Air Purifiers - may be permanently installed in room ceilings or walls, to clean/purify and recirculate the air within a closed area, or they may be installed in HVAC system ducts to clean/purify air in rooms, large open office areas, or even entire buildings.
2. Fixed Air Cleaners And Air Purifiers:
Fixed Air Cleaners & Air Purifiers are often deployed in ducted systems when large volumes or entire facilities require air cleaning or air purification. Typical applications include Industrial Facilites and Specialized Institutions - like correctional facilities.
